Defense Minister and President-elect Prabowo Subianto admitted that he is being trained by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to become President. Jokowi asked Prabowo to represent him at an event.
Prabowo made this statement during the launch of the One Map Policy Geoportal 2.0 and the White Paper OMP Beyond 2024, at St. Regis, Jakarta, on Thursday (18/7/2024).
At the beginning of his speech, Prabowo mentioned that he had been given notes by Jokowi. According to him, this indicates that Jokowi is training him to ensure he is not surprised when he becomes President later.
"I was instructed to represent President Joko Widodo, and what I am presenting is essentially notes and pointers from him. I believe the President is training me so that I won't be too surprised later," Prabowo said.
Prabowo praised Jokowi's method of preparing his successor. The former Kopassus Commander sees Jokowi as a magnanimous leader.
"After I am inaugurated, God willing, this is one of the leadership lessons we have received: a leader who is willing to step aside and who prepares his successor. This is what I feel," he stated.
Prabowo revealed that he is almost always invited by Jokowi to attend cabinet meetings. Now, Prabowo sits next to Jokowi during cabinet meetings, alongside the Coordinating Ministers.
"He now includes me in almost all cabinet meetings, and I sit next to the President. Apologies to the Coordinating Ministers, but this is how I feel I am being prepared," he concluded.
Prabowo Launches One Map Policy
Defense Minister and President-elect Prabowo Subianto launched the One Map Policy Geoportal 2.0 and the White Paper One Map Policy Beyond 2024 at The St. Regis Jakarta on Thursday (18/7/2024).
Prabowo stated that he attended the launch event following direct instructions from President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to represent the President.
"I believe the President is training me so that I won't be too surprised after I am inaugurated, God willing. This is one of the leadership lessons we have received: a good leader is one who is willing to step aside," he said. He believes that Jokowi is preparing him to be the next leader. Jokowi often involves Prabowo in various events.
"A good leader prepares his successor. This is what I feel. Now, I am included in almost all cabinet meetings and I sit next to the President," Prabowo added.
Infrastructure Development
After seeing the presentation of the One Map Policy White Paper post-2024 by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Prabowo believes the country needs to accelerate not only infrastructure development but also connectivity infrastructure and management.
"We have achieved a strategic One Map Policy. This policy will create efficiency and prevent overlapping land use, allowing for faster development processes," he explained.
According to him, speed is now an indispensable element of effective governance. The world ahead still faces uncertain geopolitical and geoeconomic conditions.
"Thus, a nation that can provide certainty and the most efficient and conducive business climate will attract investment. We need investment. For that, we need a good climate and good governance," Prabowo emphasized.
