No Military Parade for Indonesia's 79th Independence Day in Jakarta; All Events Centered in IKN

Blogsia - For Indonesia's 79th Independence Day, military displays, the ceremonial flag-raising, and related events will be exclusively held at the new capital city, Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN), in East Kalimantan. Guests attending the ceremony at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta will view the military attractions and flag-raising ceremony at IKN via live broadcast on a videotron.

The Secretariat of the State Ministry (Kemensetneg) has announced that the military displays for the 79th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia will be centralized at IKN.

Guests at the Merdeka Palace ceremony will watch the military attractions through videotron.

"The military attractions will be held only at IKN, but will be broadcast live to Jakarta. All guests will view it through the live broadcast," said Kemensetneg Secretary Setya Utama to reporters on Saturday (August 3, 2024).

The Independence Day ceremony on August 17, 2024, will take place in two locations: IKN and the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta. However, the military ceremony and flag-raising will be solely at IKN.

No Flag-Raising Ceremony at Merdeka Palace

Guests at the Merdeka Palace will see the red and white flag-raising ceremony from IKN. The flag has already been raised at the Merdeka Palace earlier in the morning before the ceremony, without any special process.

"Yes, the flag-raising will only be at IKN," confirmed Setya.

However, entertainment for the 79th Independence Day will be concentrated at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta due to the limited facilities at IKN.

Jokowi and Prabowo to Attend Independence Day Ceremony at IKN

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will serve as the Inspector of the Independence Day ceremony at IKN, accompanied by the elected President Prabowo Subianto.

Vice President Ma'ruf Amin and Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka will attend the ceremony at the Merdeka Palace. The Independence Day ceremony is scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM WIB or 11:00 AM WITA.

Regarding VIP guests at the IKN ceremony, Setya mentioned that arrangements are still being discussed. VIP accommodations will be divided between Hotel Nusantara and Balikpapan.

"VIPs will be split between Hotel Nusantara and Balikpapan. Arrangements are still in progress," Setya added.
